Brighton Labour candidate sends election leaflets to Bolton

Labour’s candidate for Brighton Kemptown got a little carried away with his latest election leaflet – when he sent it to voters in Liverpool, London and Bolton.

Simon Burgess’s campaign team accidentally sent 20,000 leaflets to people all over the country.

A computer glitch by Croydon-based printers Jupiter Associates has been blamed for the blunder. Mr Burgess said: “Instead of using the database we gave them, they used a database of party members they had from a different job.”

Meanwhile, Mr Burgess’ main rival in Kemptown, the Tory candidate Simon Kirby, and the city’s other Conservative candidates Mike Weatherley (Hove) and Charlotte Vere (Brighton Pavilion) are not immune from election gremlins themselves.

Internet content consultant Malcolm Coles spotted that the Brighton and Hove Conservatives’ website is well aware there are only 22 days (and counting) to the election – but apparently there are not yet any policies with which to woo voters.
