A Brighton actor died while taking part in a production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet this week.
Robert Atkins was backstage during the Brighton Little Theatre’s performance on Monday night when he had a heart attack. His wife, who made the costumes, was also backstage.
The thisiscornwall website reports the second half of the play was cancelled while a call for medical assistance went out.
He was taken by air ambulance from the open air Minack Theatre in Porthcurno, Cornwall, to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The play’s director, Harry Atkinson, will take over his part as one of the Montagues for the rest of the week.
