Robert Clothier, the chairman of Pride in Brighton and Hove, has announced that he is stepping down from the board of Pride from today.
Mr Clothier, who has been a trustee for four years, took over as chairman in November last year.
He is stepping down to concentrate on his career.
In a personal statement he said: “It has been an absolute privilege to serve the local LGBT community and be part of a fantastic team delivering one of the biggest and best Pride festivals in the country.
“I stepped into the role of chair to make certain the necessary team was in place to ensure the 2010 event went ahead and was up to the highest standards of quality and safety.
“I am delighted that initial feedback is positive and hailing the event as the best yet.
“It was always going to be an exciting period with innovative concepts to explore and new contractors coming on board.
“I’m proud to say the this year broke some records, with the highest attendance ever and donations over the Pride weekend topping previous years with bucket collections on the park at £23,482.49 and St James’s Street collections at £1,271.64.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the Pride team and know they will continue to uphold the ethos and principles of the charity.
“I know it is in safe hands.
“My thanks must also go to Pride’s partners and key stakeholders, for their continued help and support, many of whom have become good friends along the way.
“The past year has seen some amazing highs for Pride alongside some challenging trials and the new board, along with our community and local business partners will need to review the model used to deliver Pride in the future.
“Some difficult decisions will need to be made to ensure that this amazing celebration of LGBT lives can continue in a sustainable format.
“I am certain that Pride in Brighton and Hove will emerge even stronger and I wish those who take on the responsibility for the charity in the future every success.”
