A father and daughter from Brighton were jailed today (Tuesday 17 January) for a savage attack on her ex-boyfriend.

Patrick Lyons, 56, of Down Terrace, Brighton, was sentenced to seven years in prison for two counts of wounding 33-year-old Barry Gordon Junior.

Judge David Rennie sentenced Louise Lyons, 29, of Carden Avenue, Brighton, to four years in prison.

She was convicted of beating Mr Gordon with a baseball bat, causing him grievous bodily harm.

Patrick Lyons held Mr Gordon down while his daughter carried out the attack. He then jumped into his 4×4 and drove over Mr Gordon twice.

Mr Gordon suffered a fractured skull, broken shoulder and collar bones, a collapsed lung and broken ribs in the brutal attack.

The attack happened outside Mr Gordon’s home in The Causeway, near Brighton Racecourse, on the afternoon of Saturday 16 July.

Louise Lyons was also found guilty of attacking Mr Gordon’s father, Barry Gordon Senior, causing him actual bodily harm.

A jury at Hove Crown Court found Patrick Lyons not guilty of attempted murder yesterday (Monday 16 January).

The jury also cleared another daughter, Katie Lyons, 27, of Firle Road, Brighton, of attacking the Gordons.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick May, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “This was a nasty incident which has left the victim with devastating injuries.

“These injuries will remain with him in some way for the rest of his life.

“We wish him the best in his continued recovery.

“He and the Lyons family are well known to each other and the community where they live.

“I would like to thank the residents in The Causeway and surrounding area for their support to police and the way they have conducted themselves throughout this investigation, which could have caused considerable community tension.”
