A jailed robber who travelled to Brighton on day release from Ford open prison before going on the run has been recaptured.
Peter Mahoney, 37, left the prison on Friday 11 July having been jailed for robbery and racially motivated shooting.
He was given an indeterminate sentence in 2010 and told that he would serve at least four years.
He was arrested at a house in Sidcup Road, Eltham, at 1.30am on Thursday on suspicion of being unlawfully at large. He is currently in custody.
Detective Inspector Alan Pack, of Sussex Police, said: “This shows how quickly we can find and arrest wanted people when police officers, other agencies and the public work together.
“I’m grateful to the Metropolitan Police and the Prison Service as well as the media and the public for their help locating him.”
