The investigation of the Shoreham Airshow crash last summer is now looking at an incident at the Southport Airshow the previous year.
Eleven men, many from Brighton and Hove, were killed when a Hawker Hunter jet crashed onto the A27 on Saturday, August 22. The pilot, Andy Hill, was thrown from the wreckage and has since made a remarkable recovery.
The official investigation into the crash has now been extended, and while it has not been confirmed which incident is being examined, that year a jet provost came scarily close to the crowds while coming out of a dive.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rymarz said: “We are aware of an incident at the Southport Airshow in 2014. This incident forms a line of enquiry in our wider investigation.
“All the families are aware of our interest in this incident.”
Video footage of the jet provost dive was caught on camera and posted on YouTube here:
An interim report released by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in December made even safety recommendations, including two relating to ejector seats and others relating to regulatory procedures and technical guidance.
