A teacher from Brighton has been charged with sex offences involving a 17-year-old girl while he was working at a Hove secondary school.
Sussex Police said: “Andrew Berry, 47, unemployed, of The Strand, Brighton, has been charged with two offences of sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl while in a position of trust.
“He is on bail and due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 29 September.
“The prosecution, authorised by the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service), follows an investigation by Brighton detectives into a report received in June 2015.
“It is correct that at the time of the alleged offences Berry was a teacher at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Hove, and the girl was a pupil at the same school.
“Detectives have worked closely with school management and Brighton and Hove City Council Children’s Services to ensure that there are no other safeguarding issues at the school in relation to this case.
“The offences are not alleged to have taken place at the school but at Berry’s address.”
