Once in a lifetime event at Peacehaven & Telscombe FC ground

Iconic 70s and 80s punk rock band Peter & The Test Tube Babies are going back home to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

They will be heading back to their Peacehaven roots and will perform for the very first time in their home town when they appear at Peacehaven & Telscombe Football Club on Saturday April 7.

And as part of the band’s 40th anniversary celebration they are re-recording and re-working their 1982 track Peacehaven Wild Kids. The original song has been adopted as the football club’s anthem and band founding member, Del ‘Strangefish’ Greening who grew up in the town, is re-working the song to give it a 21st century feel.

Peter & The Test Tube Babies

Greening said: “Dan Palmer, the club secretary wrote to me on Twitter and asked if we would be interested to write an anthem for the team to come out to at home games.” “Not sure if he was being serious, I wrote back and said we would love to do it, as both Peter and I are both from Peacehaven and used to come and support the club in the late seventies.”

Greening continued: “The original song was recorded as a ‘B’ Side in the eighties so we’re delighted the fans and people involved around the club have picked up on the track and asked to use it. Please come along on April 7 – it’s going to be an historic night of football and punk rock.”

The Test Tubes will be giving the song its world premiere on April 7, and the evening promises to be very special for Tubes and Peacehaven & Telscombe FC fans alike.

Peter & The Test Tube Babies

Mike Bradbury, commercial director of the club said: “We sent the band a direct Tweet never really expecting to get an answer. We told them we’d like to use Peacehaven Wild Kids for when the teams come out onto the pitch before the start of the game.” Bradbury continued: “We were surprised when we got a reply from Del and found out that not only was the band keen to support our idea but they wanted to record a special version of the song.” “We were equally surprised and pleased when we found out that both Del and legendary lead singer Peter Bywaters follow the club’s on field progress to this day.”

At the April gig, which also features Peacehaven rock ‘n’ roll revival band The Relics, audience reaction to the reworked song will be recorded and will be added to the final mix.

The four piece band are still touring and before they play their historic Peacehaven gig they will have performed in Hungary, Poland, France, Scotland, Ireland as well as several dates in England.
