The Release – ‘Procol Harum’ by Procol Harum (Selected Video)
This week’s listen is ‘Procol Harum’ 1967 ‘Whiter Shade Of Pale’ album with the single of the same name being our wedding tune and still is a favourite. Available on the US version released September 1967.

The Release – ‘Stop-Start’ by LIINES (Selected Video)
These three unassuming young women recently supported Sleaford Mods on tour and in my opinion were the stars of the show. If you like post-punk then give them a listen.

The Release – ‘Renaissance Men’ by The Wildhearts (Selected Video)
Finally had time to listen to the new Wildies album, their first in 10 years and it’s an absolute cracker from beginning to end. Check out ‘Dislocated’, ‘My Kinda Movie’ and ‘Little Flower’.

The Release – ‘Amyl & The Sniffers’ by Amyl & The Sniffers (Selected Video)
This week I have been mostly listening to Amyl & The Sniffers self titled debut album (the “first one” was a collection of EPs and singles to date). Proper unpretentious riffing punk rock from down under.

The Release – ‘Two Fisted Tales’ by The Long Ryders (Selected Video)
Song: ‘I Want You Bad’ – The leaders of alt country…at their finest!

The Release – ‘Crashing Like Stars’ by Heavy Drapes (Selected Video)
Listening to a posthumous album following the death of Garry Borland. This was definitely a climax of everything he and the band had been working so hard for. Never saw them play, but privileged to know their drummer, Billy, who shared some of the recording secrets. I grabbed this on RSD 2019 on limited yellow vinyl. Is punk dead? Nope!! This is an ultimate mix of anthemic driving punk rock’n’roll. No fillers on this album and without doubt it is one of the most exciting albums, on that important first listen, I have heard in a few years!

The Release – ‘Closer’ by Joy Division (Selected Video)
Hi been playing ‘Closer’ Joy Division. As I’ve done over the decades every so often as it’s a such bona fide classic. I find it’s darkness uplifting.

The Release – ‘It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back’ by Public Enemy (Selected Video)
It takes me back to the summer just before Uni. Just lately as getting older, I’ve needed to go back and listen, reminisce of times gone by. What a mish, mash, bash of sound they produce and still influencing.

The Release – ‘Igor’ by Tyler, The Creator (Selected Video)
Youthful quirky innovation from this infamous US rapper who had been banned from the UK for homophobic language (but is himself gay).

The Release – ‘On’ by Echobelly (Selected Video)
I’ve been listening to this mainly because I went to see them playing acoustically recently. This album is chock full of great tunes – it’s easy to forget how many they were responsible for! Worth revisiting if you haven’t heard it for a while – or discovering if you haven’t heard it at all!

The Release – ‘Killing Joke’ by Killing Joke (Selected Video)
Dead easy this week. There are some times in life when something happens and it turns out to be amazing. I was in Brighton around October time in 1980 with a friend of mine Andy Voice. We went into a record store and they had Killing Joke tickets for sale for that evening. We got tickets and went to see them at the Top Rank Suite and I was totally blown away. I bought Killing Joke their first album on my way out and got it signed by the band. 39 years old and it still sounds brilliant today. I am looking forward to seeing them at the Concorde2 in June. It needs to be play very loud!!

The Release – ‘Floating Features’ by La Luz (Selected Video)
This all-girl band from LA had passed me by until one of their tracks ‘Loose Teeth’ popped up on my Spotify ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist which I caught my attention. As a result, I gave their most recent album a listen and it’s superb. I’d describe their sounds as retro indie-surf rock, if ever they remade Pulp Fiction their music would make a great soundtrack!

The Release – ‘Heartbreak Hi’ by Avec Sans (Selected Video)
I put on the album by Avec Sans . Heartbreak Hi. Have not listened to this for a while. Singer Alice, has a powerful voice and the songs are quite catchy. Puts me in a good mood.

The Release – ‘The Early Years’ by Roxy Music (Selected Video)
Surely Bryan Ferry is the definition of uber cool coming out of the glam scene to influence New Romantics and early Punk alike. I picked up on ‘Virginia Plain’ when it came out in 1972 and then we were treated to a whole line of classics ‘Do The Strand’, ‘Street Life’, ‘All I Want Is You’ and ‘Love Is The Drug’.

The Release – ‘Savage (Songs From A Broken World)’ by Gary Numan (Selected Video)
This week’s choons on the deck are from the Gary Numan, ‘Savage (Songs From A Broken World)’. A reminder of a FUN night recently, and ‘My Name is Ruin’ has a special place for us… can’t say too much.

The Release – ‘Amyl & The Sniffers’ by Amyl & The Sniffers (Selected Video)
Having caught their blistering live show in Brighton recently I was keen to see how the songs sounded on record.
