The Release – ‘Killing Joke’ by Killing Joke (Selected Video)
Killing Joke first album. Last week it was Killing Joke in anticipation of seeing them play live and thus week it is more if the same but this time in celebration of the gig at the Concorde 2. ‘The Wait’ was one of my favourite live songs from the other night and prompted me to put this LP back on the turntable. I also get to listen to ‘Requiem’ which was absent from their setlist.

The Release – ‘Body Bag Your Scene’ by Riskee And The Ridicule (Selected Video)
All you need to know is that you need to own this album! Riskee have set the bar high with this release, and for me the must have punk album of the year!
Stand out tracks? Well there’s 12 of them but if I have to choose a few, the beautiful haunting ‘In The Dark We Dwell’, the rousing ‘Kaboom!’ opener ‘Accelerate’ and the hard-hitting and heavy ‘Body Bag’.

The Release – ‘All Wrapped Up’ by Undertones (Selected Video)
Got this hits album in early 1985 (after they’d split up), and just got a new copy. It goes in chronological order from ‘Teenage Kicks’ so their early guitar thrash gives way to straight up classy pop songs. So good to hear the classics again. Oh yes, album 2 is the B Sides of all the A sides – so the wonderful ‘Mars Bars’ is in there. Did Lady GaGa rip of the meat dress idea from this cover?

The Release – ‘Vienna’ by Ultravox (Selected Video)
Ultravox’s ‘Vienna’ has always been one of my favourite albums. Thought of this as I am going to see Midge Ure play this album in full at the London Palladium in October.

The Release – ‘Definitely Maybe’ by Oasis (Selected Video)
This week’s album is ‘Definitely Maybe’ by Oasis. Released 25 years ago, whether you love or loathe Oasis it can’t be denied that this album is a classic. If they’d released their first two albums, played Knebworth and then split up, they would have been considered one of the great legendary bands. Instead they diluted their ouvre with every release from ‘Be Here Now’ onwards. Their debut was great though.

The Release – ‘Pylon’ by Killing Joke (Selected Video)
My album for this week is ‘Pylon’ by Killing Joke. I have been playing this as my warm up for their visit to the Concorde 2 this week. What a brilliant album this is. As it happened they played a couple of songs off this album as well as a mix of great tunes from over the past 40 years. My favourite tracks are ‘Euphoria’, ‘New Cold War’, ‘Big Buzz’ and ‘Plague’ their newest album is due for release on the 6th of September ‘Malicious Damage, Live At The Astoria’.

The Release – ‘Visions Of A Life’ by Wolf Alice (Selected Video)
Wolf Alice: ‘Visions Of A Life’. My favourite album from the band with the thundering guitars and rhythmic melodic songs. Looking forward to hear direction and chapter in their music career will be.

The Release – ‘Losing, Linda’ by Sui Zhen (Selected Video)
Sui Zhen (pronounced ‘Sue-ee Chen’) is a brand new discovery for me and she is surprisingly based in Melbourne, Australia. Her full name is Becky Sui Zhen and her forthcoming album ‘Losing, Linda’ will be unleashed to an unsuspecting world on 27th September 2019. This is an album hard to pigeonhole. The very first tune I heard from the album is ‘Matsudo City Life’ which is a wonderful synthpop ditty which could have easily been made by St. Etienne or early Grimes. But this is an album of contrasts, with songs at one moment sounding like ‘Girl From Ipanema’ and then tinged with a reggae beat. I played it three times in a row on first hearing …it’s that good!

The Release – ‘Vaultage ’78 – Two Sides Of Brighton’ by Various Artists (Selected Video)
This week it’s ‘Vaultage ’78 – Two Sides Of Brighton’, which arrived yesterday. The first of the Vaultage series, showcasing local bands strutting and strumming their stuff from the bands who managed to get onto vinyl just the once, through to the bands that hit the punk/new wave big time and are still going. Raw and energy driven, it’s a great listen.

The Release – ‘Turn Off The News (Build a Garden)’ by Lukas Nelson and Promise Of The Real (Selected Video)
Been listening to Lukas Nelson and POTR (Promise Of The Real) ‘Turn Off The News (Build A Garden)’, following their storming concert at Shepherds Bush Empire in July. Beautiful rocking country-influenced songs with great messages from Willie Nelson’s son and Neil Young’s backing band.

The Release – ‘Vaccination’ by Plague UK (Selected Video)
Plague UK: ‘Vaccination’. This rebooted lineup of ‘76 pop punk originals The Plague has plenty of swagger, and a fine selection of tunes to back it up, both on this album and the previous ‘Suck It Up’ EP.
