Palestinian embroidery workshop cancelled after Holocaust denial claims

A Palestinian embroidery workshop at Jubilee Library has been cancelled by the council after claims its organiser shared Holocaust denial and other antisemitic claims on social media.

The flyer for the event, which had been due to be held fortnightly from today, featured a map of Israel with a Palestinian flag on it.

This week, a series of Facebook posts by workshop organiser Miranda Allan were unearthed, including a video by Hamas, and posts in which she said Zionists killed Christ, as well as the Jews in Germany and that the Holocaust is a lie.

Although the Holocaust post appears to have since been deleted, Brighton and Hove News verified the other posts on Ms Allan’s timeline. She did not respond to a request for comment.

Heidi Bachram, who has a family member who is a hostage in Gaza, found the posts and shared them on Twitter.

She said: “It’s a relief to hear that this workshop was cancelled. The council cannot lend legitimacy to hate.

“We’ve seen an explosion of antisemitism and extremism in Brighton lately, and our institutions must do more to carefully vet who they hire to and protect the Jewish community.”

A council spokesperson said: “Following a number of complaints we have decided to cancel the embroidery workshop due to take place at Jubilee Library.

“Promotional material has been sent to us which doesn’t meet our rules and expectations for booking events in our venues, and we are now reviewing our processes and procedures.

“As a council we deplore antisemitism, Islamophobia and all forms of hate, and such views have no place in our libraries or Brighton & Hove. Everyone in our diverse and vibrant city has the right to feel safe.

“Our libraries are places of sanctuary that provide services and support equally to all our communities.

“We will not allow them to be used by people or organisations who promote hatred, prejudice or intolerance.

“We apologise to anyone who has been offended by this situation.”

Sadly the Gaza war has become politicised by a mix of Islamists & militant Marxists who use it as an opportunity to further their hatred regarding Israel. Free Palestine from what exactly. Gaza was free for nearly 20 years & the Palestinians voted in Hamas who instead of trying to improve the land for the civilians, they smuggled in weapons and built underground tunnels solely to be used by Hamas. Until the Palestinians end the violent indoctrination of their people from kindergarten age & agree a govt that is not committed to violence it’s hard to see how peace or any 2 state solution could work, the Palestinians have rejected a land for their people on 4 occasions and instead have focused on their so called jihad against Israel. Palestinians need to join the 21 st century & understand that terror is not going to achieve their aims. Israel has every right to go after Hamas who cynically hide behind civilian infrastructure to use as human shields . The war would end tomorrow if Hamas returned the hostages it took after the massacre of 1200 Israelis & surrendered but of course they won’t ,

Drivel from start to finish – the suggestion that Gaza was ‘free’ for 20 years is a blatant lie and we see in the West Bank Israels long term aims of annexing Palestinian land with illegal racist Jewish settlers in direct contravention of international law. The UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and and Israeli NGOs have detailed the many human rights abuses and apartheid created by Israels brutal and racist regime.
Israel was founded on Jewish terrorism, murder, rape and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people, deliberately destroying over 500 Arab villages to prevent their return – and as David Ben Gurion said ‘after the formation of a large army after the creation of the state, we will abolish partition and expand to the whole of Palestine’!

Good to see that the council are actually standing up to this – every other week we see groups spouting their hatred of Jewish people in some way or another – it has to stop.

Funny, as in not ha-ha, that the blah-de-blah council, the green bogeys and labour luvvies always have to slip in the big ‘I’ too, when this is clearly about antisemitism. You never hear a story about islamophobia where they say “we condone islamophobia, antisemitism and all forms of hate”.

In the 30’s she’d be marching shoulder to shoulder with Mosley. Just lift a rock and what do find ? another ” Miranda Allen” Hitler lover.

It is deeply disturbing that thousands of Palestinian children have been killed, many burned alive in their tents as they sleep or denied medical care, including anesthesia for amputations. Despite this immense suffering, many supporters of Israel dismiss their pain, often using Islamophobic and anti-Christian rhetoric while fueling further hatred.

Anyone who expresses empathy for these innocent victims is unjustly labeled a Holocaust denier. While Jewish people have endured immense suffering in history, it is unacceptable that the Israeli government is now responsible for the deaths of children every day, with no accountability.

My children would be safer among those being vilified than around individuals who justify war crimes. Stop killing Palestinian children. It is shameful to see so many deny this suffering.

    This article is shameful.
