A level and BTEC students at Newman College – the sixth form at Cardinal Newman Catholic School – have set a new record with this year’s results.
The college said that students were celebrating the “best ever success” and added that the “excellent” results included 85.3 per cent of students gaining A* to C – a new record high for the college – and 99 per cent of all entries gained A* to E grades.
The college said: “In fact, in the majority of attainment measures Newman College has beaten or equalled last year’s results.
“Our provisional results look set to put us in the top 10 per cent of all colleges across the country for achievement.”
Three students gained all A* grades and the college offered congratulations to
- Daniel Vincent
- Amar Clarke
- David Tollerfield
In addition, Martha Pelling achieved three A* grades and an A while Irene Soryal achieved an A* and three A grades.
A BTEC Level 3 student, Amelia Barden, gained a starred Distinction (D*) and three others gained a combination of both A* and A grades and Distinctions* – Carmichael Lucero, Harry Underwood and Ewan Wintle.
The college added: “A very special mention to Matilda Skull who gained one of the top A level English literature grades across the whole country and had a special acknowledgement letter from the exam board.”
Cardinal Newman principal Claire Jarman said: “We are incredibly proud of all of our students and are as proud of all the fantastic well-rounded young people they have become as we are of their results.
“I want to thank them, their families and our amazing and hardworking staff for such fantastic teamwork.
“Their school and college years have been anything but straightforward (navigating a global pandemic as children) but they faced all challenges with strength and determination.”
Ms Jarman added: “Some of them have been with us for seven years and others joined the college for a two-year Newman journey.
“We wish all of our students the very best for their next steps. Whatever they might do the whole Newman family wishes them well.”
Richard Marsh, the senior assistant head teacher for Newman College, said: “We are absolutely delighted for all of our students who have once again achieved incredible results in both their A levels and BTECs.
“We are incredibly proud of every student for the hard work, dedication and commitment they have shown over the past two years.
“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our parents and carers for their continued support, as well as to our teaching and support staff for their outstanding hard work and dedication in helping our students achieve these fantastic results.”
