Whitehawk is soon to get its own answer to the Red Arrows – but the Red Tarts display team will be using a much more unusual and down to earth mode of transport.
The Tarts, which stands for Tenants and Residents Together, is recruiting mobility scooter rider to join its first performance at the Whitehawk Festival in July.
Tony Silsby, of Serendipity Enterprise Solutions, who is helping organise the troupe, said: “The idea came up with them to set up a group for those who want to have a bit of fun – and to provide a positive image of people who have disabilities.
“We have got six people at the moment, and we are aiming for ten.
“We hope it will be successful and we hope that the Red Tarts will be taken in the spirit of a bit of fun and demonstrating to people that if you have a disability, you can still join in and have fun.”
The first session will take place on Wednesday, June 2, and the first performance at the Whitehawk Festival, which will take place on Saturday, July 31 on the green space outside the Crew Club in Coolham Drive.

The Red Tarts are not the first mobility scooter formation team – the Red Wheelies from Canterbury, believed to be the world’s first, have been raising money for the Kent MS Therapy Centre since 2008.
