Brighton and Hove Albion: Greer hungry for play-off glory

Albion skipper Gordon Greer has spoken of his excitement as Brighton chase for a play-off place.

He said: “It’s a hectic schedule but it should be exciting. We’ve got a strong squad and we’ve got a good chance.

“It’s a good position to be in, chasing a play-off place instead of fighting relegation.

“One of the reasons I left Scotland was that I never thought I could win much there. I never thought I could win a title.”

He admitted that the suspended Liam Bridcutt would be missed in the match against Burnley tomorrow (Friday 6 April), saying: “It’s a massive blow for us. Liam has shown this season and last season what a good player he is.”

Picking up on the positive attitude of the manager Gus Poyet, Greer added: “It will give somebody else a chance.”

He praised the fans for getting behind the team so vocally at the Amex when Burnley visited Falmer and won 1-0 after Albion were reduced to nine men early on.

Greer said: “Burnley at home was a crazy game. The fans were great.”

And while the Lancashire side lost 3-1 at home to Birmingham on Tuesday (3 April), he pointed out that they had beaten Portsmouth 5-1 at Fratton Park last Saturday (31 March).

With six matches to go, Greer indicated that he was more fired up than tired, saying: “I’m still looking forward to the games.”
