Steve Coogan headlines local charity comedy gig

Steve Coogan is to headline the first annual stand-up comedy benefit in aid of a local children’s charity.

The Hove comedian has agreed to perform at Amaze’s event, the Big Cheer, after his partner Henry Normal became a patron.

Comics Simon Evans, Andi Osho, and Seann Walsh complete the line-up at The Dome on Thursday, June 17.

Henry Normal and Steve Coogan own and run Baby Cow Productions Limited, which has produced a string of TV comedy hits including Gavin and Stacey, The Mighty Boosh, Nighty Night and Saxondale.

Henry Normal and wife Angela, who live in Brighton, recently become patrons of Amaze after the charity helped support their 12-year-old son, who has autism.

Angela Pell said: “Unless you have a child with a disability or special needs, it can be difficult to realize just how isolating; surreal and often a challenge it can be even just doing the most regular of things. Amaze work small miracles every day, helping to make life a little easier for a lot of families in the area. It’s brilliant to be able to help organise an event like this for them.”

Joanna Martindale, Director of Amaze, said: ” This is a new venture for us and very exciting, we are looking forward to a night of big laughs with comedy fans in for a special treat. All of us, staff and volunteers at Amaze are very grateful to Angela and Henry for this fantastic opportunity to help support our work with families in Brighton and Hove.”

Tickets for the Big Cheer are £25 and available via the Brighton Dome website or from Brighton Dome Ticket Office, New Road, Brighton. 01273 709709. The show may not be suitable for under 16s.
