Residents are increasing pressure on the council to transform college buildings into a much-needed primary school.
Two members of the public will present questions to Brighton and Hove City Council’s cabinet this week calling on it to create a primary school at the Connaught Centre, in Connaught Road, Hove.
In recent years children living in the area have had to be sent to primaries elsewhere because of a shortfall of places.
The Connaught building is currently leased by City College Brighton and Hove but has previously been a primary school.
Parents have already called on the council to use the building to make up the shortfall.
Campaigners recently succeeded in gaining Grade 2 listed status for the centre in an attempt to stave off now-defunct plans for redevelopment.
One of the questions is from Valerie Paynter, of the Save Hove group, who asked: “What work did Brighton and Hove City Council also do, then and since, to lay the ground for eventual acquisition of this building for re-use as an infant or primary school?”
The other was from Mrs Stack, who said: “I would like to ask the council why they did not think of leasing classrooms at the Connaught Road school instead of spending huge amounts of money (million pounds each one) on mobile classrooms on playgrounds across the city?”
The cabinet will answer the questions at the meeting at Hove Town Hall, in Norton Road, on Thursday (June 17) at 4pm.
