Brighton seafront is swarming with cyclists finishing the London to Brighton Bike Ride – Britain’s biggest annual charity cycle ride.
The riders set off from Clapham Common in South London this morning with the earliest starting at 6am.
The trickle of cyclists reaching Brighton a few hours ago soon became a flood.
Ditchling Road turned into a river of riders pouring into a sea of lycra along Madeira Drive on Brighton seafront.
About 27,000 riders are estimated to be taking part in the event which is expected to raise more than £4 million for the British Heart Foundation.
They have been tackling the 54-mile route in slightly chilly conditions for June. The sky is bright but, at times, overcast which should mean that sunburn is a little less likely than usual to add to the saddlesore afflicting some.
Southern and First Capital Connect – the two main train operators from Brighton railway station – are still not laying on extra trains as happened for many years after the ride was started in 1980.
