Brighton and Hove Albion today announced that manager Gus Poyet had been unsuccessful with his appeal and is no longer the football club’s manager.
Poyet arrived at the club in November 2009 and, after a shaky start in which the team did not win a home league game on a Saturday until March 2010, the team went from strength to strength.
In 2011 Albion won League One with games to spare.
Once in the Championship the Seagulls started strongly, with Poyet at the helm for the move to Falmer. The team were top of the Football League for the first time in 32 years in September 2011.
Poyet would often bemoan his low budget during press conferences, both before and while the cameras were rolling.
However, it was at press conferences late last season when the cracks in his relationship with the board started to appear as he questioned their motivations and decision-making and again linked the lack of an adequate budget to his frustrations.
Poyet leaves the Albion in a far better state than he found the club and, with his 86 victories in 194 matches, many will salute his achievements.
