Work has begun this week to pump thousands of tonnes of shingle onto Hove beach.
The scheme to fight coastal erosion will see the beach extended 25 metres out to sea.
Over the last few months, a new groyne field has been created between the King Alfred Leisure Centre and Second Avenue which will support the shingle.
The pebbles are being taken from a licensed dredging site in the English Channel.
