A trackside fire has disrupted train services Brighton and London this morning (Monday 28 September) with delays and cancellations expected until at least 4pm.
Southern and Gatwick Express services have been suspended on most routes in Sussex, including coastway services, after the fire yesterday. Others have been disrupted.
Southern said: “On Sunday 27 September, there was a fire next to the track in the Clapham Junction area.
The fire caused damage to the signalling equipment on the route and repairs are ongoing.
“As a result, trains between Clapham Junction and London Victoria may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, diverted or revised. Major disruption is expected until 4pm.
“If you are planning to travel to or from London Victoria this morning, you are strongly advised to use an alternative London terminal instead.
“An extremely reduced train service is running to and from London Victoria until at least 2pm as emergency engineering repairs have been taking place overnight and throughout this morning.
“We strongly advise that you delay travelling until later today or use an alternative route. Where possible, please travel into alternative London terminals and use the London Underground to complete your journey.
“A limited half-hourly service will operate between London Victoria and East Croydon. These trains are expected to be extremely busy and should only be used if you cannot delay your journey or are unable to travel via an alternative terminal.
“Travelling via an alternative route will extend your journey further and we recommend allowing at least an extra 60 minutes more time than usual.
“It is recommended to use Thameslink services to and from London Bridge instead. You can use London Buses and London Underground services to connect between London Victoria and London Bridge at no extra cost.”
