Two men jailed for battering woman with frying pan

Two men have been jailed after they battered a woman with a frying pan in her home in Peacehaven last year.

Roxroy Parchment, 49, of no fixed address, and Effram Needham, 39, of Reservoir Road, Birmingham, were both jailed for four years at Hove Crown Court.

They were found guilty of assault, affray and having cannabis with intent to supply.

The jury at Hove Crown Court heard that three men attacked the victim, a 45-year-old woman, in her home in Grassmere Avenue, Peacehaven, on Saturday 27 July last year.

At about 8.30pm they forced their way into the woman’s house and demanded to speak to someone called Kate.

When she told them that no one called Kate lived there, they hit her over the head with a frying pan and left.

They drove off in a Nissan Juke car.

A neighbour phoned the police and followed the car to Seaford.

A police officer saw the car on the A259 coast road and briefly pursued it but it failed to stop.

One of the passengers got out in Ringmer Road, Newhaven, and dumped a bag. This was found to contain 20 bags with 30 grams of cannabis in each.

The pursuit was stopped because of the high speed of the vehicle. The car, which had been hired in Birmingham, was later found abandoned in Eastbourne Road, Seaford.

A search of the area found no trace of the occupants although two of them – Parchment and Needham, were eventually traced, arrested and charged.

The victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with minor injuries.

After the case Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “This was an unprovoked horrendous attack on a vulnerable woman in her own home in Peacehaven where last July three men forced their way into her home and attacked her with a frying pan causing lasting injuries.”
