Barclays is closing its branch in Boundary Road, Hove, because not enough people are using it.
The bank wrote to existing customers of the branch, which serves Portslade and West Hove, to explain the changes. It said that they were due to people increasingly using online, telephone and mobile devices.
All four staff will be transferred to other nearby branches.
A spokesman said: “Customer usage is declining and many customers regularly use alternative branches, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close the branch on Friday 28 November 2014.
“Our four colleagues at Barclays in Portslade have been consulted about the changes and will transfer to other branches nearby.
“In addition to the option of online, telephone and mobile banking customers can undertake everyday transactions at any post office with the closest being at 39 Boundary Road, a short walk from the branch.
“We hope the range of alternatives including digital banking, nearby branches and post office access will help to ease the transition for our customers in Portslade.”
Barclays at Preston Circus will also close early next year. Such a horrible company, but they are not alone, the whole banking industry encourages customers to use digital banking so they can close branches and save on staff costs. Isn’t capitalism great!
Note even an explanation note in the window on the following Monday to advise people of their closure or where to process their banking !
