A Brighton cat who loves nothing more than dozing in the sunshine now has a new hairdo to prove it – a saddle of bleached brown spikes along her black coat.
Yoda, who lives in Kemp Town with her owner Claire Armitt, began developing the two-tone look about a year ago, when she was eight years old.
And as it’s only the tips which are affected, it’s clear her sunbathing habit is to blame.
His owner Claire Armitt said: “Wherever there’s a sliver of sunlight coming in through the window she will find it – any light source when she’s in the house.
“And when she’s outside she has her own sun lounger – a brown wooden sun lounger with a green cushion.
“She was just black when we got her six years ago as a rescue cat from Paws and Claws in Sayers Common. She’s only started going brown over the last year.
“She went in for her normal jabs and I asked the vet at the time what was causing it, whether it was her getting old. The vet pointed to the roots of the fur and said they’re not brown – her coat is actually being bleached by te sun.
“She’s a very blissful and peaceful cat and I don’t think she minds her new look. It was a little strange at first watching her turn brown but I love her whatever colour she is.
“It’s the first year that it’s happened so we will see how it goes over the coming seasons. She maybe a completely different cat next year!”
