Brighton and Hove gets the rubber gloves ready to clean for the Queen

People in Brighton and Hove are getting the rubber gloves and litter bags ready to “clean for the Queen” tomorrow (Saturday 5 March).

And one litter pick along the seafront between the Palace Pier and Brighton Marina was informally described as “clean for the queens”.

Brighton and Hove City Council leader Warren Morgan is expected to turn out along with staff from Cityclean, the council’s refuse, recycling and street cleaning team.

They will be joining with other volunteers at 10am tomorrow by the Brighton Wheel for a “seafront spring clean”.

The aim is to hold “a clean up of as much of Kemp Town seafront as we can do over two days, supported by Cityclean, to get the area ready for summer”.

Councillor Morgan said that he hoped people would want to join the volunteer effort.

Elsewhere, under the “clean for the Queen” tag, litter picks are taking place along the old Dyke railway line and in the Three Cornered Copse.

The Dyke Rail Trail litter pick is taking place from 10am to 1pm, starting at the Hangleton Way end of the old railway line.

Volunteers are meeting near the silver birches at the bottom of the green in the Three Cornered Copse in Hove from 10am to 1pm.

On Sunday (6 March) volunteers are meeting at the playground below Birdham Road, in Moulsecoomb, to tidy up the area in and around Hodshrove Woods and the playground.

The organiser, Heike Golightly, said that refreshments would be provided and added: “All participants are invited to join us for a pub lunch at the Bevy afterwards.”
