Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul on a season-long loan.
However, the transfer window has now closed until the start of January.
But the Seagulls are believed to have applied to the Premier League for an extension, also known as a deal sheet.
This would enable the club to have until 1am tomorrow morning (Friday 1 September) to sign a player, thought to be striker.
Albion said: “The 29-year-old, who played under Albion manager Chris Hughton at St James’ Park, travelled down from the north east this afternoon and completed the deal at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre this evening.
“Krul has made 157 appearances for the Magpies in the Premier League and provides Albion with another option between the posts alongside summer signing Mathew Ryan and Niki Maenpaa.
“The shot-stopper joined Ajax on loan last season before switching to fellow Dutch side AZ Alkmaar for the remainder of the campaign where he featured 16 times and helped them to a sixth-placed finish in Eredivisie.”
Hughton said: “I know Tim from my time at Newcastle and he is an excellent professional that has a vast amount of experience at both club and international level.
“He’s played an extensive amount of games in the Premier League as well as playing in the Europa League and his experience will also help benefit the other keepers in the squad.”
