A Brighton drug dealer has been given a second chance by a judge after failing to turn up for rehabilitation meetings.
Reece McCue, 31, of Glenwood Lodge, Grand Parade, Brighton, was given an eight month prison sentence in June, suspended for two years, for selling cocaine.
At Hove Crown Court today Judge Christine Laing was told that he had turned up for six of the 20 days of rehabilitation activity.
But he failed to turn up three times – two of those times without a reasonable excuse.
McCue’s barrister Martyn Williams said that he had been living at Glenwood Lodge where he was surrounded by people with drug and mental health issues.
Mr Williams said: “Somebody who has had a history of drug use can be very vulnerable to peer pressure.”
Judge Laing said that she remembered what she told McCue when she sentenced him in June.
She said: “I gave you a chance and you are not really taking it.”
She gave him a second chance, adding five more days of rehabilitation activity to his sentence.
The judge added: “If you’re back before me for further breaches, you are really on very thin ice.”
