Brighton & Hove Albion hammer West Ham United

West Ham United 0 Brighton & Hove Albion 3

Albion at least equalled their record top-flight away win with a stunning performance at the London Stadium as they secured their first ever Premier League victory on the road and their at this level since March 1983.

Glenn Murray opened the scoring as he nodded in Pascal Gross’s free kick after 10 minutes.

West Ham had their chances. Javier Hernandez and Mikail Antonio caused Albion some problems. But Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy held firm.

Maty Ryan looked comfortable and made a few routine saves while on the left flank Gaetan Bong and Jose Izquierdo looked to have cemented a good partnership.

Albion’s second goal came after a sustained period of West Ham pressure. Gross and Davy Propper combined well to set up Murray but former England keeper Joe Hart made a smart save.

Seconds later Jose Izquierdo picked up a loose ball, cut inside Winston Reid and fired a dipping shot that Hart could only palm into the net.

Albion allowed the Hammers  a lot of possession in the early stages of the second half.

But there were a few chances including Duffy’s header against the foot of the post from a Propper free kick. However, the effort would have been ruled out for offside.

But it was from one of Anthony Knockaert’s mazy runs that Albion got their third. The Frenchman  weaved around Antonio and Reid and slide a ball to Murray who saw his shot saved by Hart.

From the resulting corner Pablo Zabaletta upended Murray, who fired the resulting penalty down the middle to put Albion 3-0 in front.

West Ham offered very little and had few chances for a consolation.

The Seagulls move up to 10th in the Premier League – their highest position in English football at any time since 1981.

Next up for Albion, home to Southampton a week on Sunday (29 October) at the Amex.
