The number of empty shops in Hove and Portslade is incredibly low, according to Brighton Business.
It said that the latest survey of vacant units had shown one of the best results for decades.
Brighton Business, the website for Brighton and Hove Economic Partnership and the Business Forum, highlighted Station Road, Portslade, and Boundary Road, Hove.
The vacancy rate there was 1.3 per cent, with just two shops empty out of 153.
And only two units were empty in George Street, Hove, out of 86 – a vacancy rate of 2.6 per cent.
Blatchington Road, Hove, also had just two empty shops, out of 78, giving it a vacancy rate of 2.6 per cent.
Five shops out of 181 were empty in Church Road, Hove, and four out of 107 in Western Road, Hove.
The figures suggest that Hove and Portslade are bucking the national trend as the economy shows signs of struggling and a growing number of shoppers go online to buy.
The Local Data Company and the property consultancy CB Richard Ellis both indicated that vacancy rates were rising, with more than a third of shops empty in some towns.
Brighton Business said that the overall vacancy rate for Hove and Portslade was just 3.9 per cent, making it one of Britain’s most successful shopping areas at present.
The UK average was 11.5 per cent and Brighton was suffering a rate of more than 8 per cent.
One street in Hove fell short – the number of empty shops in Portland Road rose from 11 to 15 out of 171, meaning that it had a vacancy rate of 8.8 per cent.
