Brighton and Hove Albion 3 Tottenham Hotspur 0

Sensational  Albion best Spurs for the first time in a generation, scored three and could have had a hatful.

The Seagulls hadn’t beaten Spurs since 1983 but ,after two minutes, Hugo Lloris – in danger of carrying a Pascal Gross cross over his goal line – dropped the ball in front of Neal Maupay who headed Albion in front from close range.

Lloris fell awkwardly and was eventually carried off with a suspected broken elbow.

Albion were causing Spurs all sorts of problems as Aaron Mooy and Martin Montoya caused Jan Vertonghen and Harry Winks all sorts of problems.

Gross, whose cross Lloris was unable to deal with, tested his replacement Paulo Gazzinga with a couple of shots, one of which deflected off Eric Dier and flashed narrowly wide.

Montoya sent Connolly scampering clear and it appeared the teenager was upended by Sissoko but referee Jon Moss waved away penalty appeals.

But not long after, from a Mooy cross, Connolly produced a great save from Gazzinga, but the Spurs substitute keeper couldn’t hold on to it and Connolly snapped up the rebound for a goal on his full Premier League debut.

With seven minutes of added time due to Lloris injury Maupay had a couple of chances and Tottenham finally threatened as Erik Lamela saw his effort whacked clear by Lewis Dunk.

Although Tottenham threatened Albion earlier in the second half, Albion were soon pushing Spurs back. Mooy and Dan Burn we’re finding plenty of space, seeing a strike charged down.

A free kick routine saw a Gross shot hit bar, although it looked suspiciously like Gazzinga helped it over.

Minutes later Lewis Dunk played a superb ball into the path of Connolly who took the ball on and placed a brilliant low drive into the far corner for 3-0 and his second as the Amex went wild.

Gross could have made it four and towards the end Maty Ryan made one excellent from Harry Kane and then made an unbelievable stop from Lucas Moura.
