By Tim Hodges from the Amex Press Briefing

Gus Poyet said this morning how much he was looking forward to seeing Steven Gerrard play at the Amex tomorrow (if selected) but only for 60 minutes or so.

He talked about the difficulty in juggling his squad with two games in 48 hours. He went on to say that he would talk to Vicente Rodriguez after training today (Tuesday) to see if the Spaniard was ready for inclusion in the squad, stating also that assistant manager Mauricio Tarrico may also be in the 18 on duty against the Reds.

He said how delighted the players were when they were drawn against Liverpool and how disappointed they were to lose at Leicester on Saturday (17 September).

When asked by Brighton and Hove News if the current squad were aware of Albion’s great pedigree against Liverpool in the 1980s he replied to me that he didn’t think they were, jokingly adding if it’s not on the play station they wouldn’t know.

He said that it was nice to go back and look at the past but football was about the next game.

He concluding by answering a question from the Danish media representative, saying what a great influence and competitor Casper Ankergren was and adding that the keeper also needs to pass the ball.
