Four more senior Green Party councillors look likely to follow their leader Jason Kitcat by stepping down next May.
The Brighton and Hove Independent reports today (Friday 25 July) that former council leader Bill Randall will retire.
Ian Davey, who leads on transport and has spearheaded the Green administration’s policies on cycling, parking and 20mph zones, has not put his name forward for selection for the local elections next May.
Nor has Mike Jones, the quietly spoken deputy chairman of the council’s Planning Committee.
The fourth councillor who looks likely to step down from the council is Christopher Hawtree who will stand for election to Parliament on the same day as the local elections.
The Brighton and Hove Independent reported recently that council leader Jason Kitcat was planning to retire from politics next May even though he will only be in his mid-thirties. His wife Ania is also standing down.
The free weekly newspaper said that another couple could take their place as Green candidates in Regency ward – Alex Phillips and her husband-to-be Tom Druitt. Mr Druitt runs the Big Lemon Bus Company while Councillor Phillips currently represents Goldsmid ward.
Green Party members are currently voting for the first round of candidates.
