Fatboy Slim: "Big Beach Boutique too expensive"

Norman Cook says he won’t be playing Brighton again this year because it’s too expensive and tricky to put on.

The Hove-based DJ, aka Fatboy Slim, says he gets a kick out of playing on the beach of his hometown.

But unless he gets an “enormous sponsor” he won’t be able to do so again.

He said: “I can’t do Brighton beach this year so [the SW4 festival on Clapham Common] will be my big English summer shindig.

“We get something of the same atmosphere as in Brighton – obviously it’s not my hometown and we haven’t got the beach. It’s nice to have a beach party, a dance event. I’m not the world’s best DJ but I think I throw some of the best parties.”

He added: “It’s just too difficult to shut the roads off and too expensive to set it all up – unless we get an enormous sponsor. It’s all paramount to everyone’s safety.”

The event was also cancelled last year after Cook, who lives on the seafront with his wife Zoe Ball and two children, went into rehab.
