Brighton church 'first in UK' to develop iPhone app

A Brighton church believes it will be the first in the country to offer an iPhone application to spread its message.

The Church of Christ the King, based at the Clarendon Centre, New England Street, is hoping to submit the app to Apple in the next week.

The CCK iPhone app

When approved, the free app will feature video and audio recordings of the church’s messages from Sunday meetings, information from its blogs and church calendar and general information about the church.

Church spokesman Matt Simmonds told Brighton and Hove News: “We are very keen to investigate and utilise new technologies to communicate the message of Jesus Christ.

“We currently use outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr as well as our own website and blogs. One of the fastest growing communication tools out there at the moment is the ‘app’ so we were eager to get involved.

“The app is being developed by a Brighton based company, Brightec, which is run by some guys in the church. They’ve never produced an app before and wanted to get involved in this market so they are doing this for free for us so they can learn the trade.

“The first version will be fairly basic but we hope to develop it further and add new functionality over the course of the year.

We plan to submit the app to apple at some point in the next week but it may take a while before it’s live. As far as we are aware we are the first church in the UK to have produced an app so we are keen to get it live quickly!”
