Brighton and Hove City Council’s widely ridiculed Status Quo recruitment campaign cost £14,000.

The council used a bizarre website, www.saynotostatusquo.co.uk, to recruit four new strategic directors on controversial salaries of £125k each.

It called for applicants able to drive through change, and said: “Status Quo fans need not apply.”

After the site was slammed by Status Quo themselves, the council’s chief executive John Barradell issued an apology to the band in its fans in an open letter.

The campaign was put together by Southampton based digital  agency Five by Five, and this week a Freedom of Information request revealed it cost £14,000.

The information was only disclosed by the council following an initial refusal.
