Plans for a new Sainsbury’s convenience store at the disused Caffyn’s garage at Preston Park are set to be rejected.
Planning officials at Brighton and Hove City Council have recommended the supermarket giant should be refused permission for the scheme in Preston Road.
Members of the council’s planning committee will make a final decision at a meeting at Hove Town Hall on Wednesday, 13 October, at 2pm.
Local residents have campaigned against the new store, which is one of series of new convenience store branches of Tesco and Sainsbury which prompted council leader Mary Mears to speak out against their impact on the city.
At the same meeting councillors will consider revised proposals for 33 flats in a four storey complex above the new Tesco in St James’s Street, in Kemp Town, Brighton.
