Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby has won a seat on a House of Commons select committee.

The Conservative MP beat 11 other candidates to win a place on the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee.

Mr Kirby, a former entrepreneur who set up and ran a pubs and clubs business in Brighton, said: “I am delighted for Brighton and Peacehaven that I have been elected by my colleagues to serve on the BIS Committee.

“It means I shall be able to bring business, innovation and skills concerns from the

city and Peacehaven directly to the select committee.

“The committee will hold ministers to account, look at specific issues and I can raise matters of local concern.

“We have a vibrant business sector in the constituency and terrific links between the universities and local entrepreneurs.

“I intend to bring the importance of all this to the committee for the benefit of the city,

Peacehaven and the country as a whole.”
