The funeral of Brighton-born soldier Daniel Prior was held yesterday.
His baby son Logan, born only weeks before he died, was taken into church for the funeral service by his mother Emily and accompanied by Private Prior’s parents Ian and Gillian.
Private Prior, 27, came home on leave to be by her side when she gave birth to Logan.
And she and her young son were with him as he died in hospital in Birmingham last month.
He had been blown up by a bomb while on patrol in Helmand province in Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment.
Private Prior, who grew up in Peacehaven, was praised by his platoon commander Jonny Mortimer Hendry.
He told the funeral service at St Saviour’s Church in Eastbourne that Private Prior was a professional and outstanding soldier who was blown up, on Thursday 17 March, while doing his duty.
He said: “He encapsulated the character of a paratrooper but he was also a family man.
“He had tight bonds with his family and was a very caring and loving man who will be sorely missed by us all.”
