Brighton and Hove Albion may be newly promoted but they are one of the most expensive teams to watch in the Championship, according to a BBC report.
The BBC said that, when it comes to the cheapest day out, only three Championship clubs are pricier than Albion – Derby, Portsmouth and West Ham.
The cheapest adult tickets for league matches at the new Amex Community Stadium cost £24 and, again, only three clubs in the division charge more – the same three.
The survey included the price of a programme, a pie and a cup of tea to make up its league table of the cheapest day out.
Albion even proved to be more expensive than five of the 16 Premiership clubs which responded in full to the survey.
Seven Premiership clubs offer cheaper tickets than Albion, including Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Albion’s top-price tickets – at £35 – were cheaper than five Championship clubs with Ipswich charging a maximum of £59, although the Tractor Boys offer £15 tickets for the cheap seats.
Chelsea’s top-price tickets cost £87 and Arsenal’s £100.
Blackburn offer adult tickets for as little as £10 and Wigan for £15.
Mind you, few of the seats are likely to be as comfortable as those fitted in the Seagulls’ new stadium.
The first Championship fixture kicks off at Falmer tomorrow (Saturday 6 August) against Doncaster Rovers – the last side played by the Seagulls at the old Goldstone Ground in Hove.
When the sides met on a rainy Saturday in April 1997 Albion were scrapping to stay in the Football League and about to start 14 years without a permanent ground of their own.
