The average price of a property in Brighton and Hove is approaching £300,000, according to an analysis of Land Registry figures.

A total of 1,289 homes changed hands from the start of the year until the end of May for a total of more than £372 million.

And ten of those homes sold for more than £1 million.

The figures are reported in the Brighton and Hove Independent newspaper today (Friday 5 July), the first issue under new editorial director Greg Hadfield.

Mr Hadfield, a digital entrepreneur and former Fleet Street journalist, is a keen advocate of open data.

The report cites the Brighton and Hove Estate Agents Association saying that sales volumes had risen 20 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The ten most expensive properties sold since the new year are

  • £1,825,000  21A Lloyd Road, Hove, BN3 6NL (Detached, April)
  • £1,650,500  7 Roedean Way, Brighton, BN2 5RJ (Detached, May)
  • £1,600,000  42 Dyke Road Avenue, Brighton, BN1 5LE (Detached, April)
  • £1,465,000  41 The Cliff, Brighton, BN2 5RF (Detached, May)
