Binmen and drivers in Brighton and Hove will be working as normal from tomorrow (Friday 7 November).
They will end their work to rule after a long-running dispute with Brighton and Hove City Council.
The council said on its website today (Thursday 6 November): “Industrial action by Cityclean drivers, including ‘work to rule’, is suspended while we work on a service redesign.
“We’ve undertaken to review the job descriptions of drivers as part of the promised service redesign and to come back to the unions on that by the end of December.”
The GMB trade union said that there would be no more strikes while the proposals were worked up but that it would take time to clear the backlog of uncollected rubbish.
So has the GMB finally been persuaded that taking industrial action with the primary intention of creating wage inequality between male binmen and female dinner ladies is NOT COOL (as well as being, of course, illegal and a disgrace to the Trade Union movement)?
Still waiting to hear about what this “work to rule” involved, and what rules their members will now be breaking…
