Brighton & Hove Albion are 10 points from heaven

Queens Park Rangers 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 2

The Albion need just 10 points from the fifteen that are left to play for, to win promotion to the Premier League . After the clubs first victory at Loftus Road in sixty years.

The Seagulls lead the entire football again. And parallels must again  be drawn with the situation exactly 20 years ago his month. When  the Albion were rock bottom of League 2 and literally staring oblivion in the face.

Albion had the ball in the net twice in the first half. But both Glenn Murray and Tomer Hemed’s efforts were disallowed for offside.

Second half goals from  leading marksman Murray, his 21st of the season. And a stunning free kick from Seb Pocognoli his first for the club. Put the Seagulls two goals in front  by the 65th minute.

Matt Smith pulled a goal back for the home side with twenty minutes to play but the Seagulls hung on. Goalkeeper David Stockdale made a couple of vital saves late on.

If Huddersfield and Reading both fail to win their fixtures over the weekend then Albion will need just 7 points to up.

If Leeds fail to beat play off chasing Preston on Saturday (8 April) they will no longer be able to catch Albion.

Albion cannot now be caught by any other Championship team.

Huddersfield visit Nottingham Forest and Reading travel to Norwich  this Saturday.

Second place Newcastle travel to Sheffield Wednesday.

Albion are next in action at Wolves on Good Friday.

They actually only need 9 as Huddersfield are not likely to close the gap on the GD and it could be just 6 if they lose today.
