Brighton and Hove health chiefs given ‘inadequate’ grading by NHS

Nominations have opened to celebrate the unsung heroes of mental health care in Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust wants to hear about outstanding local NHS staff as part of their Positive Practice Awards celebrating the best in mental health care.

Every year the mental health trust hosts the awards to showcase successes and highlight innovation.

The Positive Practice Awards seeks nominees from across the various locations run by the trust which include

  • Mill View Hospital, Hove
  • Brunswick Ward, in Laburnham Avenue, Hove
  • Hove Polyclinic, in Nevill Avenue, Hove
  • The Aldrington Centre, in New Church Road, Hove
  • Rutland Gardens Community Wards, Hove
  • Lighthouse, in Sackville Gardens, Hove
  • Phoenix House, in Regency Road, Brighton
  • Hanover Crescent, Brighton
  • Bartholomew House, in Bartholomew Square, Brighton
  • Montague House, in Montague Place, Brighton
  • The Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton

The trust said: “This year the trust wants to find a real ‘Shining Star’ – someone who has made a real difference to service users, their carers and their families.

“They may work in a clinical area or be a member of a support team who has helped to make life just a little bit easier.”

Past “Shining Stars” have included staff behind such local initiatives as a forum to improve communication and support for relatives of people staying on Brunswick Ward, in the Lindridge Care Home, in Hangleton.

Other “Shining Stars” have been awarded to a programme improving the physical health of people in Sussex experiencing psychosis and schizophrenia for the first time and the Golden Ticket Project increasing support for people living with dementia in Lewes and the Sussex Weald.

A previous winner said: “Getting an award meant a lot for me and the team. All the hard work was recognised and it motivated us to do more to improve care.”

Nominations close at midnight on Thursday 31 August. To nominate a Shining Star in mental health using the online form on the trust’s website, click here.
