Boy, 17, appears in court charged with stealing pick-up truck
A 17-year-old boy has appeared at Brighton Youth Court charged with stealing the pick-up truck that was later alleged to have been used in an attempted murder.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not asked to enter a plea because of the continuing investigation into the alleged attempted murder.
The incident, outside the Ladies Mile pub, in Warmdene Avenue, in Patcham, happened on Saturday night (7 October).
A 19-year-old, Enkyed Islam, from Patcham, was run over by a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck and then run over again almost straight away.
He is in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton.
Two other boys, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, both from Brighton, have also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The pick-up truck was believed to have been stolen in Rottingdean on Saturday and was found burnt out in Stanmer Park yesterday (Sunday 8 October).
District Judge Tessa Szagun remanded the 17-year-old boy on bail and ordered that he should appear at Worthing Youth Court on Thursday 9 November either in person or by video link.
A decision is expected to have been made by then on whether the boy faces a more serious charge.
