Former Tory leader quits party
The former Conservative leader in Brighton and Hove has quit the party.
Councillor Tony Janio will now sit as an independent member of Brighton and Hove City Council.
He resigned he said for “personal reasons” but declined to comment further.
Others pointed to the timing which came hours after the Hove and Portslade Conservatives picked his fellow councillor Robert Nemeth as the parliamentary candidate for Hove at the next election.
