Two flee to safety as arson attack damages Peacehaven mosque

Two people ran through fire to escape after an alleged arson attack on a mosque, a court has heard.

Peacehaven Mosque in East Sussex was occupied and lights were on when a fire was allegedly started with accelerant on its front steps on the night of October 4.

Prosecutor Amy Packham told the Old Bailey: “The two occupants in the mosque were able to leave the property running through the fire in order to exit and were not harmed.”

She said there was “significant” damage to the front of the mosque and one of two nearby cars was completely burnt out.

Ricky Ryder, 38, and Jack Slowey, 34, were charged with arson with intent to endanger life and two further charges of arson relating to the vehicles.

On Friday, Ryder, from Seaford, and Slowey, from Peacehaven, appeared at the Old Bailey by videolink from Thameside jail.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said the case would be heard by a High Court judge at Kingston Crown Court.

She set a plea hearing for March 27 and a provisional trial from December 1 next year.

The defendants, who spoke to confirm their identities, were remanded into custody.

Funny how the SM false narrative of ‘an insurance job’ has stopped now charges have been made. I wonder where that came from? I expect a number of FB groups have been furiously deleting posts since this started.

Having been a resident of HMP Thameside, these two fraggles will not be bragging about their crime, probably will be on the so-called protection wing, hatred breeds hatred, make an example of them.

Islam is racist, sexist and totally misogynist – a paedophile sex cult that allows fathers to sell their daughters to an older male cousin. It is violent towards non muslims – remember 9/11 WTT attack in NY – the 7/7 London bombings the London Bridge and Westminster Bridge attacks – the Manchester Arena bombings the stabbing of a white MP in Essex – the stabbing of 3 in Reading – and the list goes on and on- so why are there 5m in 2000 UK mosques breeding on the NHS funded by the taxpayers? Why did Starmer not deport the Pakistani drug dealing rapists from Yorkshire when he was head of the CPS? Did he want his sir ship or the 24 muslim Labour MPs?

In your opinion only Muslim are terrorists, hatred you harvest because of social media and on news channel always shifting balem on one particular sect. In reality if you have to think sensibly, Muslims across glob facing not only facing prosecution but also being killed in large numbers in every country. Most of them are innocent people, thir homes being destroyed, family and kids being killed or abducted, force out of their homes and lands , this is biggest propaganda against Muslims being taking place across the world , if you have to count , Muslim are the only people who is being currently killed in large numbers in every part of the world in comparison to other sects, or follower of other religions. You can work out by yourself how many people gets killed on daily basis and only because of the faith they follow . How that is fare ? Did Christians or Jews or hindus or Buddhist or rest is currently being killed or facing prosecution ? Open your eyes and search the truth. You are brain washed by information that been feeding by news channel and social media.

Between September 11, 2001, and the December 2025 Bondi Beach attack, there were over
    60,000 Islamic extremist attacks worldwide.
Here is a breakdown of the number of Islamist terrorist attacks globally during that period:
    2001-2012: 8,265 attacks 2013-April 2024: 56,413 attacks
These attacks caused the deaths of more than 249,941 people globally.
In Australia and the United States specifically, the numbers are much lower than in conflict zones like the Middle East, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, where the vast majority of attacks and deaths occurred.
In the United States: Between 1994 and early 2025, there were 140 jihadist-related plots or attacks, with 107 deaths from jihadist attacks since 9/11 (excluding the 9/11 deaths themselves). In Australia: There have been several notable attacks and plots classified as Islamist terrorism, including the 2014 Lindt Cafe siege, the 2015 Parramatta shooting, and the 2024 Wakeley church stabbing, leading up to the 2025 Bondi Beach attack, which was linked to Islamic State ideology.
