The housing and homelessness charity BHT Sussex said that it exceeded its £30,000 annual Christmas appeal target.
BHT Sussex said: “Our winter appeal was a great success. We are thrilled to announce that we have smashed our £30,000 target for our winter appeal to raise £37,315.
“This is thanks to supporters like you who have donated to the appeal, shared the cause and attended fundraising events. We couldn’t have exceeded our goal without you.
“Every penny will go to First Base Day Centre to help people in Brighton and Hove who are sleeping rough.
“At First Base, people can access practical essentials such as hot food, showers and clean dry clothes, alongside in-depth advice and support to move away from homelessness for good.
“The demand for First Base is incredibly high. The centre supported over 500 people in the past year.
“As well as providing practical essentials, the centre helps people to find safe accommodation, secure employment and access the vital services they need to rebuild their lives, including GPs, mental health support and addiction services.
“Last year, 6,603 visits were made to the centre which is the only one of its kind in Brighton and Hove.”
BHT Sussex issued a plea for people to fundraise for the charity this year, saying: “It’s a great time to get involved with fundraising as there are many exciting events coming up.
“For example, join the Hastings Half Marathon in March, Brighton Marathon in April or the London 2 Brighton Ultra in May.”
