A new date has been set for Brighton and Hove Albion’s home league match against Chelsea.

The two sides are now due to face each other on Tuesday 21 April at 8pm.

The match was originally scheduled for Saturday 25 April but a month ago it was moved to Sunday 26 April, with a 4.30pm kick-off, to be televised live by Sky Sports.

Today (Tuesday 7 April), Albion said: “Our Premier League game at home to Chelsea has been rearranged for Tuesday 21 April, kick-off 8pm. It will be televised by Sky Sports.”

The fixture has been rescheduled because the date clashes with the weekend of the FA Cup semi-finals, with Chelsea winning a place in a 7-0 victory over Port Vale on Saturday (4 April).

The west London side are due to face Leeds United at Wembley on Saturday 25 April.

Next up, Brighton are due to travel to Burnley to play Scott Parker’s relegation-threatened side on Saturday (11 April), with the Clarets second from bottom and 10 points adrift of safety.

Albion beat the Clarets 2-0 at the Amex on Saturday 3 January – one of the few bright spots in a fallow winter for the Seagulls – with goals from Georginio Rutter and Yasin Ayari.

Both sides have played 31 Premier League games this season. Brighton are currently 10th in the table, with 43 points, while Burnley are 19th, with 20 points.

After the Burnley match and before the rearranged Chelsea game, Albion are scheduled to play Tottenham Hotspur in north London in a televised fixture at 5.30pm on Saturday 18 April.

The rest of the run in should take place next month, with a trip to Newcastle United followed by Wolverhampton Wanderers at home, Leeds United away and, finally, Manchester United at home.

Brighton are still in the running to qualify for a Champions League spot, given that five English teams are expected to have an automatic place in the competition next season.

Liverpool are currently fifth on 49 points – just six points ahead of Brighton – in a tight but wide mid-table spread.

Albion’s last match was a 2-1 win over Liverpool at the Amex on Saturday 21 March, with Danny Welbeck scoring both goals.

Another one I won’t bother to travel too…some people have work to do and the awful train pickup service from Lewes is getting worse, maybe sky can use AI to fill the empty seats.
