Crowds of people who had gathered to watch the eclipse slowed firefighters as they tried to reach a scrubland blaze.
Smoke from the wildfire could be seen from some distance but a fire crew found their way partially blocked by vehicles.
Fortunately, they made their way through and put out the blaze with a hose and beaters.
The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called at 4.11pm to a fire in Devil’s Dyke Road on outdoor scrub land.
“Firefighters from Hove used one hose-reel and two wildfire beaters were used to extinguish the fire.
“The crew left the scene at 4.51pm.”
