Dozens of children at Hopscotch Children’s Nurseries helped to raise more than £4,500 for charity with their summer exhibitions, “Little Artists for Amaze”.
Artwork created by the nursery children was sold at seven exhibitions, one at each Hopscotch nursery, between from June to August and raised a total of £2,325.70.
This figure was matched by Hopscotch Nurseries, resulting in a total donation of £4,651.40 to Amaze which supports families with disabled children across Sussex.
The donation was made just as the charity prepares to launch the Amaze Story Trail – a new outdoor sculpture trail running from Saturday (12 September) until Sunday 8 November.
The trail will transform the streets of Brighton and Hove into a story book, more than 30 BookBench sculptures painted by local artists on display in local streets and parks.
The family and access-friendly trail includes smaller sculptures decorated by local children, including seven painted by children from Hopscotch nurseries.
Every child at Hopscotch took part in the “Little Artists for Amaze” project with their artwork displayed at each nursery before the auctions took place.
Now in its second year, the initiative celebrates children’s creativity while supporting Hopscotch’s continuing partnership with Amaze.
The exhibitions have become a highlight of the Hopscotch calendar, giving children the opportunity to see their work displayed in a gallery-style setting while bringing families together to celebrate their creativity and achievements.
Amaze’s head of fundraising and marketing, Hannah Allbrooke, said: “Partnering with Hopscotch is an absolute joy and we are so grateful for all they do for Amaze.
“The passion they bring, from thrilling fundraising challenges to brilliant creative projects, directly helps us support families with disabled children in Sussex.
“Having their young artists involved, not only in these exhibitions but also in our upcoming Story Trail where all of their nurseries have completed a BookBench, is very special.”
Hopscotch Children’s Nurseries chief executive, Philip Ford, said: “At Hopscotch, we’ve been part of the Brighton community since 1988 and supporting local children and families has always been at the heart of everything we do.
“This project is a wonderful example of that, giving every child the chance to celebrate their creativity while raising money for Amaze who are making such a huge difference to families across Sussex.”
The nursery said: “Hopscotch has proudly supported Amaze since 2024 through fundraising and community initiatives. The charity was chosen by Hopscotch staff and reflects the impact the nursery wants to make in its wider community.
“Since the partnership began in 2024, Hopscotch and its families have raised more than £8,600 for Amaze.”
