A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood … how many times have I read that line from The Gruffalo down the years to my daughter and grandchildren? Now you can enjoy that walk with a theatre show from Tall Stories’ with music, songs and fun at the Theatre Royal this November.

Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in Tall Stories’ magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Published in 1999 adapted from a Chinese folk tale called “The Fox that Borrows the Terror of a Tiger”. It’s spawned plays and an Academy Award- nominated amimated film.  The book has inspired a range of merchandise, a commemorative coin, a theme park ride at Chessington World Of Adventures and a series of woodland trails.   In 2004 & 2026, The Gruffalo was followed by two sequels, The Gruffalo’s Child and Gruffalo Granny, also written by Donaldson and illustrated by Scheffler.

The story joins Mouse searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the high-spirited Snake. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there?

Songs, laughs and monstrous fun for children aged 3 and up and their grown-ups, in the much-loved show that’s toured Britain and the world!
